Equal Opportunities
We are strongly commited to sustainably enable equal opportunities for all SyMoCADS members and to implement family-friendly policies. We will take full advantage of FAU instruments and measures and take additional steps to provide an equitable and family-friendly environment for all participants.
Selected instruments and measures for promotion of equal opportunity at FAU include:
- target agreements between the University Executive Board and the five faculties of FAU to increase the proportion of female academics at all qualification levels;
- FAU Office of Equality and Diversity as the central institution for the conceptualization and implementation of FAU’s gender equality and diversity strategy;
- creation of a cross-faculty Commission for Equal Opportunities (SyMoCADS spokesperson Prof. Kathrin Castiglione represents the Faculty of Engineering in this commission);
- career and personal development concepts for young female scientists involving targetspecific measures (e.g., ARIADNE mentoring programs, visiting scholarships);
- guest lectures to present the careers and research achievements of successful female academics;
- online tutorial on “Gender-sensitive appointment procedures and personnel selection at FAU”;
- targeted measures to attract female pupils into STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math);
- FAU Family Service to foster the compatibility of studies, work, and family;
- guidelines on preventing and dealing with cases of discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment at FAU and University Hospital Erlangen.
Furthermore, SyMoCADS is a member of F3G-Consortium that is an alliance of various collaborative research projects at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg and Universitätsklinikum Erlangen with the aim to ensure that funds for promoting equality are used correctly and for the purpose set out in the guidelines.
