Sasitharan (Sasi) Balasubramaniam received the BE (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Queensland, Australia, in 1998 and 2005, respectively, and Masters of Engineering Science from Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 1999. He is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Computing, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA. Previously he was the Director of Research at the Walton Institute, South East Technological University, Ireland. He was a Past PI for Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) VistaMilk and CONNECT research centres in Ireland and a recipient of the Academy of Finland Research Fellow at Tampere University, Finland. Sasi was also a past recipient of the SFI Starter Investigator Research Grant. He has also received grants as PI and Co-PI from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and European Commission H2020 Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) program. His research interests include molecular communications and biological AI modeling and simulations and the Internet of Bio-Nano Things. He is currently an Editor in Chief for IEEE Transactions on Molecular, Biological, and Multi-scale Communications, Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and IEEE Transactions on Nanobioscience. He is also a Technical Editor for IEEE Academy for IoT and a past Associate Editor for IEEE Internet of Things Journal. In 2018, he was an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for the Nanotechnology Council.
